Are you living your best life?

Imagine having everything you want out of life. Where would you even start? So often, we get stuck in the reality of adult life: student loans, paying bills, and working all the time, that we forget that at one time we actually had big plans for our life. We get so caught up in doing the things we have to do, that we forget about the things we want to do. Finances and life circumstances are absolutely real things that can keep us stuck. I don’t want to pretend that everyone is in a place where they are able to easily change their circumstances. Unfortunately, poverty, systemic racism, and other social injustices keep many people stuck. I do, however, want to acknowledge that there are also a lot of bullshit things that keep us stuck. These are the things that we tell ourselves: “They would never hire me at that kind of job" or “I will never be able to travel overseas” or even “I’ll never have that type of love”.

So often, we talk ourselves out of things we want before we even give it a chance. The idea of self-fulfilling prophecy is at play here. For example, if I think I won’t be able to land my dream job, I won’t apply. And guess what? I 100% will not get the job. However, if I change my mindset and apply for the job with confidence (I’m not saying lie on your resume, just saying have some faith in your abilities), I will have a statistical chance of getting the job, right? We live in a time where many people are making a living in unconventional ways that had not even been considered 15 years ago. People are making money, traveling, and creating a fulfilling life for themselves on YouTube and Instagram. I don’t mean that you have to try to become famous on the internet, but that it’s okay to think outside the box. And if your goal is to create a brand and followers to provide you income and flexibility, if you buy into thoughts such as “I have nothing interesting to say. Nobody would want to follow me." then you won’t even try. And then, you will have created that reality. Think about ways you can create a life you’ll love living rather than feeling trapped in your own life. Of course, I’m not saying just because you believe you will get the job, travel the world, or find yourself in a whirlwind romance, that it will happen, just that you open yourself to the possibility.

So try this: find a quiet spot, get cozy, and just let yourself imagine the life you want. What would you do first thing in the morning? How would you spend your day? Who would be with you? What would you do for work? What would you do for fun? How would you spend your money? Write it all down even if you think it sounds over-the-top and a bit ridiculous. Next, start finding small ways to make that life a reality. What small steps can you take today to make your life something you genuinely enjoy? I’d say that’s worth putting some thought into. You might be surprised how much your life can change in the next few years if you start to write out goals and take small steps today.
